Welcome

Welcome to AGON, our Bed and Breakfast, since 2006, for guests who are looking for a relaxing and tranquil home.

This accomodation is perfectly located for those who are visiting Taormina and the East coast of Sicily.

AGON is a lovely Bed & Breakfast located at TAORMINA MARE (Taormina seaside), overlooking the picturesque Taormina bay at the beginning of the south end of Capo Taormina.

AGON is situated in an apartment, that was completely refurbished in January 2014, on the first floor, without lift, of a typical building of the 1900’s built with thick outer walls, high ceilings and large windows.

It is located in a great position at Taormina seaside, close to the beach and about 2 km away from the "Isola Bella" nature reserve to the north and "Alcantara" river gorge to the south.

Should you wish, we will put at your disposition all our knowledge such that your stay with us will be enriched by all that our land has to offer in terms of nature, history and art.

The name “AGON” has been carefully chosen.

The choice was inspired by research done by the Capuchin Friars, who reside close by in the “Villagonia” convent, on the historic origins of the area which also shed light on its roots.

The name “Villagonia” is derived from the Greek term “AGON” which is used in reference to anything that has to do with a contest, a debate, an argumentation or a conflict in fields as diverse as athletics, music, poetry, art or drama.

Furthermore, the term can be traced back to the verb “àgo” (to conduct, to guide) and therefore the more accurate meaning of the word “agòn” is probably “a meeting point”, a place of encounter, perhaps with particular reference to sporting activities. In fact the Greek athletes used this area as their training ground as they prepared themselves for the competitions that were held at the Greek theater in Taormina.

We wish that our “AGON” becomes a place of encounter where people from different cultures come together to deepen their knowledge of the historic, artistic and cultural treasures that our land has to offer.
